SBL celebrates Environment Protection milestone.

10th

At SBL, we are proud to be celebrating the tenth anniversary of our involvement in India’s Environment Protection Initiative. Originally set up in support of national projects, it has since grown into the starting point for all our international project standards. This journey has been recognised and audited on numerous occasions, through our multiple ISO and Six Sigma Accreditations and our Associations with major international Partners and Organisations.

As a direct result of this initiative we now lead on state-wide government projects that have environment protection at their heart. In the last few months alone these have included:

Digitization & Archival Management

  • Digitizing the State of Kerala’s Legislative Assembly proceedings since 1888.
  • Digitizing and archiving old newspapers for Kerala Media Academy.

E-Governance

  • e-Vidhan project for the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Environmental considerations included:
    • Drastically reduce paper used to almost zero
    • Save over 6,000 trees supplying oxygen to over 12,000 people
    • Saving over Rs.10-15 Cr. on paper and printing costs
    • Deliver an online app for remote attendance dramatically reducing travel expenses and carbon emissions
    • Deliver a sustainable online portal which not only makes the process more efficient, with better decision making and outcomes, but which also dramatically reduces duplicated work and waste.
  •
    Geospatial Services

    • BIM for Smart Cities
    • Environment and forestry planning and suatainability.
    • Groundwater analysis and flood modelling.
    • Agriculture management and productivity.
    • Mining and Corporate Responsibility.
    • Site suitability analysis for solar, wind and thermal.

This anniversary coincides with the re-launch of our Group Mission, Vision and Values. Much has changed in ten years and we have updated our company policies to reflect the increased opportunities to forge global partnerships. Our core values of integrity, trust, accountability, innovation, teamwork and leadership underpin our commitment to operate in a sustainable, transparent and collaborative manner at all times. The inspiration for our Mission and Vision encapsulates this corporate responsibility:

“Our worth is not measured by our look, popularity and money we amass. Our true worth would be measured by the benefits others gain out of our success and the positive impact we create to human life”. – Lord Shirdi Sai

Over the next ten years we hope to expand significantly the number of clients for whom we operate a dedicated team throughout the year. This creates efficiencies and economies of scale while also allowing for more effective forward planning, project standardisation and teamwork based on collaborative innovation. These benefits in turn lead to less waste, greater productivity, an engaged and fulfilled work force on both sides of the partnership and a shared vision of how to develop and deliver a sustainable future together.

E-Governance at Legislative Assembly House

egovernance
Government of India’s vision of Digital India aims to transform digital infrastructure as a utility for governance. This initiative help Citizens in getting effective Governance by reducing the redundant process and providing better transparency in Governance.

The Digital India initiative contributes to nation’s growth and development by bringing in technology interventions across the key areas where every citizen has access.

Digital India initiative faces tremendous challenges in implementation of e-governance solutions across different departments, this includes the digitization of existing information, adapting to technology based workflow management etc.

Experience of implementation partners in similar projects is one of the major challenges faced by Government. Lack of understanding of day-to-day functions of Government departments and the governance process can create more confusions among citizens and can create a reluctance to use the digital platform.

To tackle these challenges and ensure a digitally well-connected India Government is taking necessary steps, including validating implementation partners based on past experience in similar projects, educating and motivating citizens to use technology in day-to-day life etc.

A major measure taken by Government is to revise the traditional paper based workflow at legislative assembly to a digital ecosystem. This initiative will familiarize the benefits of technology in governance and encourage the legislative members to spread the benefits of technology through their constituency.

Himachal Pradesh Legislative assembly is country’s first legislative assembly who had transformed to a digital platform through e-Vidhan solution and has successfully completed all the sessions including budget session digitally .

In line with this transformation, e-Vidhan has offered mobile applications to Legislative members, enabling them to access information on the day’s business instantaneously. Through the mobile applications, Legislative members get a totally new opportunity to interact digitally with electorate and officials to handle the grievances of the public. Further, the members can access any data related to the development activities in the constituencies, thereby making eVidhan a complete ecosystem for Constituency Management.

eVidhan project is first of its kind in India and was developed as a joint venture between the Himachal Pradesh State Legislative Assembly, National Informatics Centre, National Informatics Centre Services Incorporated (NICSI), Government of Himachal Pradesh along with SBL.

eVidhan Project was Awarded the Civil Service Award – 2015 by the Himachal Pradesh Government for the transformation it had brought in Legislative proceedings, operational cost savings & its contribution to environment.

Successful implementation of e-Governance solution at Himachal Legislative Assembly has got attention from other Legislative assemblies across India and are moving forward to implement same, encouraging digital ecosystem at all levels of Governance.

e-Vidhan Successfully complete India’s first Digital Budget session

Shimla | 21-March- 2015

e-vidhan

Budget session at Himachal Pradesh Assembly was different from what it used to be. The e-Vidhan project, commissioned in the last monsoon session launched on (August 4 2014), transformed the session as country’s first web-based paperless budget session.
During the month-long budget session that began on March 11, the not-so tech-savvy members were seen busy in tapping their fingers on their desktop computers.
Soon after the chief minister announced the schemes and incentives in his budget speech, the members were busy in scrolling down to see the entire text of the speech and view the budget related books. Members had the provision to search the earlier budgets for making any references.
e-Vidhan reduced the printing cost of the Budget documents drastically by availing the digital copies of Budget speech and related documents on the internet immediately after the speech is completed by CM.
Governor Kalyan Singh, in his inaugural address, said the digitalisation of the assembly proceedings, ensures paperless work of the house and its committees, would not only save approximately Rs.15 crore but also the environment.
In his budget speech, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, said the e-Vidhan system, which has  helped in saving a huge quantity of paper has been lauded all over the country.
Speaker BBL Butail said, for the first time, all copies of bills and reports were laid online and from the next session all replies to questions would only be provided online.
The e-Vidhan project was developed as a joint venture between the Himachal Pradesh State Legislative Assembly, National Informatics Centre Services Incorporated (NICSI) and the Government of Himachal Pradesh which was sanctioned by Department of Electronics & Information Technology of India.
Based on the track record in implementing similar projects in government and public sectors, NICSI selected SBL as Associate Partner for the development and implementation of the entire system. With a reputation for intelligent, efficient and highly-organized development and project-management skills, SBL’s technology division has successfully developed and implemented the entire system within the guidelines of NICSI and is proud to be associated with the first ever hi-tech legislative house in India.

SBL Proud to be apart of India’s first ever paperless budget session.

Himachal Pradesh is set to become the country’s first state to present a ‘paperless’ budget on March 11. Since the state already has the country’s first green assembly, all documents related to budget estimates would be made available online and only around 10 budget copies would be printed for record.

Earlier, around 200 copies along with huge volumes of other documents used to be published during the budget session. Running the proceedings on e-Vidhan would save the state exchequer Rs 15 crore annually.

SBL,  Associate Partner for the development and implementation of e-Vidhan system is proud to be part of the first ever paperless budget session in India.

Digital India Vision: Opening up the way for e-Governance and digitization solutions to public & private sector.

internet concept
In a stirring ‘call to action’ speech towards the end of 2014, Prime Minister Modi outlined his ambitious vision for a Digital India. It quickly became clear that the successful implementation of this vision would rely primarily on the implementation of IT & Technology innovations across public and private sectors. In particular, a key starting point would be initiating the change from paper-based information silos to paperless and evolving data ecosystems.

At SBL, this announcement was met with great enthusiasm. As a leading IT solution provider in e-Governance projects, and a long-standing advocate of digital transformation in India, it felt as though our own strategy was finally aligning with central government policy. Most impressive of all was the understanding that a successful digital transformation has a number of vital stages, all of which must be joined up through a comprehensive and coherent plan.

Our successful track record in implementing e-Governance solutions demonstrates that we have the required understanding and project capabilities to formulate and execute these often complex plans. Part of this is of course carefully implemented change management. We have already helped a range of organizations to navigate this transformation. These include Government departments, Legislative Assemblies, Publishing companies, Libraries and Commercial enterprises. Typical project activities include digitizing and archiving existing paper records; inter-active database creation; hosting and joined up management of data; e-portal creation to deliver digitized records online.

We are delighted to be part of the ambitious Digital India project.
